Amsterdam, Netherlands – December 14, 2023 – The Waste Transformers and CIS Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The companies join forces in a groundbreaking cooperation aimed at reducing operational emissions as CIS Group’s role as Integrated Service Provider for the management of remote sites located in onshore environments. This strategic partnership not only addresses the pressing issue of food waste management in remote locations, but also aligns with global efforts to embrace cleaner, more sustainable practices in the mining industry.

CIS Group secured this year important contracts in South America, West Africa and Eurasia, benefiting from sustained sales momentum in all its operating areas worldwide. This commercial dynamism brings its own set of challenges, and the group, aware of its environmental impact, is already implementing a series of actions aimed at guaranteeing maximum efficiency in its operations, while reducing its footprint. In this venture, CIS Group will collaborate with a leading local partner to provide specialized expertise, where food waste could be valorized at the site through the Waste Transformers’ technology.

With the MoU in place, The Waste Transformers and CIS Group will work hand in hand on international projects aimed at valorizing food waste in remote locations, starting with project with high potential impact. The Waste Transformer biodigesters aim to be strategically incorporated into the different projects worldwide to convert food waste into clean energy, contributing to a circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of large-scale operations.

Sustainability at the forefront: How a Waste Transformers biodigester works
These state-of-the-art containerized biodigesters utilize food waste, such as food scraps, to produce clean energy on-site, to co-power the remote operations. In the context of mining projects, this means turning the food waste generated at the catering operations into a valuable energy source and natural fertilizer for local usage. Additionally, more awareness is created around food waste reduction and reuse, as still globally over one-third of all food is being wasted.
Joining forces for environmental responsibility
In light of the MoU, both organizations are gearing up to introduce their first Waste Transformer in 2024, in Africa for CIS Group – where waste management is often an issue. By strategically situating on-site biodigesters at the largest work sites, the transportation of food waste to distant landfills will be greatly reduced.
In addition to the direct environmental benefits, the collaboration emphasizes both companies’ commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices. The Waste Transformers and CIS Group aim to set new industry standards for excellence, showcasing how remote facility sites can thrive while also actively contributing to reductions of food waste.
