The Waste Transformers Named Winner of Global Innovation Award

Award co-created by Globally Connected Companies and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment

Dubai-UAE: 21 January 2019 – The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) named The Waste Transformers, an innovative waste solution provider, as the winner of the first online Global Innovation Award in the UAE, co-created by MOCCAE and Globally Connected Companies, an affiliation of companies with a vision to make a positive impact on the planet.

The award received applications from 160 global entrants who submitted their innovations to Globally Great (GloballyGreat.com), an online video platform – under the Globally Connected Companies – focused on bringing the world’s most sustainable innovations to the UAE. The award’s selection criteria comprised the applicant’s ability to present a highly innovative solution to a pressing sustainability challenge, their alignment with UAE Vision 2021, the solution’s applicability to the UAE, and capability to tackle the water-energy-food nexus.

Taif Al Amiri, Director of the Government Communication Department said: “MOCCAE is pleased to partner with the Globally Connected Companies to drive more innovative sustainability solutions in the UAE. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment chose The Waste Transformers because it presents an out-of-the-box solution to managing the increasing amounts of waste. Its solution is in line with the Ministry’s mandate to implement sustainable waste management systems across the UAE to achieve our target of treating 75 percent of all waste.”

Stephanie Schachtschabel, Managing Director of Global Connecting Companies, said: “We are delighted to be able to support The Waste Transformers with their market entry into a region truly committed to sustainability. Our goal as a platform is to inspire, educate and inform our audience about how destinations can make the transition towards a green economy. The Waste Transformers provides a truly inspiring example that is applicable worldwide.”

Lara van Druten, CEO of The Waste Transformers, said: “We are humbled and honored by the recognition given to us by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment amongst an impressive list of companies, and are excited at the opportunity to work with local stakeholders and contributing to the realization of the UAE Vision 2021.”

She added: “To celebrate our entry into the UAE market, The Waste Transformers will launch a special designer edition of our installations, turning these functional objects into beautiful statements of Dutch Design.”

The Waste Transformers is a provider of small-scale waste to energy installations which generate energy from organic waste. These installations are placed on the site where the waste is produced, which is applicable in various industries such as hotels, harbours, communities, and other food waste producing markets. They transform the organic waste into green energy, recover water, and filter the valuable nutrients from the waste to be used as a natural fertilizer.
