Speaking at Belgian-Dutch Port Day 2024

In our increasingly globalized world, the intricate connections between different sectors are more apparent than ever. One surprising link is between food waste and international ports. As we become more aware of the environmental impact of our actions, it’s crucial to rethink how we handle waste, especially in such critical areas as ports, which play a pivotal role in global trade and food security.

For a long time, there was a widespread belief that the oceans could absorb anything thrown into them. This misconception has been corrected with a growing understanding of environmental issues. While the seas can degrade many items, this process often takes months or even years, leading to significant ecological damage.

On June 13th, Coen Bakker spoke at the Belgian-Dutch Port Day 2024 (Belgisch-Nederlandse Havendag 2024) at the Delamar Theater in Amsterdam. This event promised to shed light on critical aspects of the energy transition we all know is essential. Coen delved into an often-overlooked energy resource that is available to all of us: the valorization of food waste.

At The Waste Transformers, we are committed to changing the narrative around food waste management. Coen’s talk highlighted the potential of using natural, reusable materials as the new standard in energy production and on-site food waste management. By leveraging innovative solutions like our modular biodigesters, we can transform food waste into clean energy and natural fertilizers, thus reducing reliance on chemical alternatives and minimizing environmental impact.

This event was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the intersection of food security, waste management, and the energy transition.

About The Waste Transformers: The Waste Transformers is a Dutch cleantech pioneer, providing on-site innovative technologies to transform unavoidable food waste into sustainable energy and natural fertilizers, enabling local positive change.
